Announcement on the Dissolution of SAME-Cambodia

To all our supporters,

It is with deep regret that we are announcing the dissolution of SAME-Cambodia. The past two years have proven challenging as we navigated our way through the pandemic and monitored the situation in Cambodia.

As you know, SAME-Cambodia premised itself on delivering free violence prevention programmes to children in Cambodia through the school system. However, schools only reopened in late 2021 after pandemic induced closures, meaning that children have been out of the classroom for almost two years. We acknowledge the Cambodian school system’s prioritization of core subjects for the immediate future and note the reduced numbers of students in classrooms as they continue to practice social distancing.

Earlier this year, we explored different avenues for programme implementation, including partnerships with existing entities in target locations, but
unfortunately to no avail. With the health and well-being of children in Cambodia being a priority for SAME-Cambodia, it is for these reasons that we are unable to implement our activities as planned and thus, have sadly agreed to wind up the charity.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to all our supporters who generously donated their time and money to SAME-Cambodia. We maintain the belief that the realization of gender equality will have a catalytic effect on all other sustainable goals in Cambodia
and indeed worldwide.

We are sensitive to the fact that gender-based violence has increased significantly during the pandemic, and women and girls continue to bear the brunt of the crisis. In this regard and aligned with the terms of our constitution, we have conducted a mapping of upstanding organizations in Cambodia with similar objectives to our own, and to whom we can transfer our funds to support the elimination of gender-based violence in Cambodia. Since no implementation expenses were incurred, 98% of all funding remains available for onward submission.

This Life Cambodia is a non-profit organization empowering Cambodians to make an impact on complex social justice issues, using grassroots community consultation approaches, community development techniques, and strengths-based case management for direct service provision to
children and families.

Specifically, the organization runs a programme entitled ‘This Life Without Violence’, which aims to reduce the incidence of violence against women and children in Cambodia and its destructive impact on women, girls, children, families and communities. This is done through several core activities including the provision of training for lower secondary school students on understanding Violence Against Women and Children; building healthy relationships; and supporting Student Councils in target schools. We invite you to read more about their fantastic work here: www.thislife.go

Should you have any questions or concerns about the transfer of funds, we kindly invite you to reach out to us by emailing info@same-cambodia.org on or before August 31 st , 2022, after which all proceeds will go to This Life Cambodia.

The terms of our constitution are also available upon request. Once again, we would like to thank you for your support throughout this journey and
sincerely appreciate your belief in our mission and vision for gender equality.

Yours sincerely,

Ethel Gavin
